While planning to memorialize a loved one who has passed is not an easy process, choosing a special way to remember the departed may help to ease the grief. For many, the ideal way to say farewell to a loved one is by burying or scattering their remains, and if your loved one was a nature-lover, you may want to consider a biodegradable urn. When selecting an urn, families should think about the final resting place of a loved one before looking at styles.
There are several options of biodegradable urns for ashes and all of them contain material that is friendly to the environment. They come in a diverse range of sizes, colors and designs ensuring that you will never need to compromise on your preference when choosing an environmentally friendly urn for ashes. Biodegradable urns are ideal for water burials, and green cemeteries because they break down naturally when buried or exposed to water, ensuring that you return the remains of your loved one to the earth without causing any harm to the environment. There are several types of biodegradable urns available - water urns, earth urns, and scattering tubes, and they all serve different purposes.
The water urn is designed specifically for water burials and helps to avoid ashes being blown around in the water. Instead, the remains are stored inside a water-soluble container. When the urn gets into contact with the water, it will float for a brief period, and then sink to the bottom of the water in a delicate manner. These water biodegradable urns are made from natural materials such as recycled paper, gelatin, sand and rock salt, and completely break down with no harm to the environment.
Distinct from the water urn, the burial or earth urn is designed to break down naturally in soil. They can come in many different colors, sizes and shapes, and can even have seeds embedded in them so that a new plant will grow as the urn breaks down. Burial urns are made from non-toxic materials and break down completely in about a year.
Another option to consider are scattering urns, which are designed to make it easier to spread the remains of your loved one in a special location. These scattering urns, which come in a variety of sizes, are made of a paperboard tube with perforated holes at the top and are made to temporarily hold the remains of your loved one.
A biodegradable urn may also be ideal if you desire to board a plane with the remains of your loved one. TSA guidelines require that the ashes are transported in a container made of a scalable material that can be easily x-rayed. While many conventional urns are not easily x-rayed, biodegradable urns will easily pass through the security x-ray technology used in the airport, ensuring an easier travel experience.
