Common Personalization Phrases

by Alex Johnson January 04, 2019 2 min read

During moments of loss, we often find it difficult to sort through the right words to accurately describe the emotional mixture of loss, sorrow, and bittersweet memories that we feel. Everyone copes and deals with loss in different ways, and similarly, we all are able to express ourselves in our own unique ways. What some handle with tears, others might handle with delicate humor.  This difficulty in describing our emotions often presents the same challenge when trying to decide what message to have engraved on the urn of that loved one.

We might ask ourselves: how can I possibly sum up a lifetime of memories into one, succinct phrase?  How can I possibly translate 40 years of marriage into 4 simple words?  As one writes a eulogy, they might struggle with finding the right phrasing to express the times of good and bad. Even trying to create some all-encompassing phrasing to describe a lifetime in a small, 100-word obituary can present its own challenges.

This is where the endless beauty of some of the most common engravings can bring you some reprieve.  These enduring expressions, while brief, are used by so many because of their succinct and heartwarming messages.  There’s no need to spend hours agonizing over what to engrave on your urn, when one of these turns of phrase so often fit perfectly.  To see a simple yet everlasting, “Rest In Peace”, engraved on an urn so delicately composes our final wishes for our recently departed.  The effortlessness of “Beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, Daughter” humbly illustrates your loved one’s connections in this world.  Perhaps a modest “Forever in our Hearts” would fit your urn perfectly, serving as a gentle reminder to yourself and the world.

Consider the thoughtful repose you might find yourself in, once deciding upon any of the following expressions for your own dearly departed:

“In Loving Memory”

 “Until We Meet Again”

“Forever Loved, Forever Missed”

“In Cherished Memory of …”

Perhaps you may want to consider your favorite psalm, or the favorite psalm of your loved one.  There’s no need to make it complicated, since there’s so much to be found in a modest and minimal phrase.  Was there a particular expression from the Bible they quoted regularly? Perhaps a verse that provides the gazer with a feeling of peace and serenity, like, “The Lord is my Shephard; I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1. Any number of psalms or prayers are a wonderful way of decorating an urn.

Any number of expressions, phrases, verses, or poems are available to you for engraving upon your urn. Why agonize over creating something entirely new, when there’s already so many beautiful expressions to help you convey just what you’re feeling?  We can’t fit a lifetime of memories and thoughts onto one single urn, so what final farewell captures what you want?  Let us help you find just the right turn of phrase.
