Urns with Personality

by Alex Johnson June 22, 2018 3 min read

Selecting a cremation urn for your loved one can be overwhelming and difficult: there's the size, the shape, and the material of the urn to consider. Then you have to work through either matching the design to your loved one's personality, or perhaps to where it is going to be displayed, or maybe match it to the service itself. To make the selection process a little easier, let's focus on matching your urn to your loved one's personality.

Remember that customer service representatives at Get Urns are available to answer any of your questions and work with you at any point in the decision-making process, with as little or as much help as you need. To contact us:

Nobody knows your loved ones better than you do, so you should be confident that, if you believe something matches their personality, then you are probably right. Of course, if they have left instructions on their wishes, then you may already have some guidance regarding the ideal design, but if not, then use their personality to guide you. Who was that person? What were their interests and passions? What about them do you think should be remembered?

Hobbies and Passions

If your loved one had a specific hobby, sport, or skill that they enjoyed more than anything else, perhaps you could select an urn that contains related design elements. For example, a love of the outdoors and nature, or a passion for woodworking might point to a simple wood urn. Motifs of musical instruments and music notes, or perhaps a quote from a song might be appropriate for a music lover, or for a gardener, a floral design. Memorialize the deceased's love and passion for something, and they will be remembered for all the joy it brought them.

Ideologies and Philosophies

Perhaps your loved one was very spiritual or fought for a specific cause. Patriotic urns are available in many different materials and shapes, and usually depict the flag; these can be especially appropriate for those who have served their country in the military. Religious urns will have religious symbolism on them such as the cross or doves and can have pieces of scripture or quotes from hymns and psalms inscribed on them. If your loved one was an activist for a specific political or ideological cause, then something symbolizing the work that they have done for that cause might be appropriate; if they were an LGBT activist, then perhaps something with the pride flag, or if they were heavily involved in environmentalism, perhaps something biodegradable which can be planted in the ground under a memorial tree.

 Family and Loved Ones

Someone who was, at their core, fully dedicated to their family might want to be remembered by that love and care. Urns with inscriptions about family are relatively common, or, perhaps you could select an urn with elements that represent your family – for example, if a doting, dedicated father has died, you could select an urn with something to represent each member of his family. There are also couples’ urns that are designed to hold the remains of two different people, and so loved ones do not have to be separated, even after death. Cremation jewelry is also an option. If you have lost a family member who you wish you could keep with you always, you can store a tiny amount of their remains inside of a pendant or bracelet. Wearing this piece of jewelry means that they never leave you.

Matching a cremation urn to your loved one's personality can seem a daunting task, but in doing so you show how much they were loved and how well they were known by those who love them. It is a beautiful thing you are trying to accomplish for them. If you need any help in this endeavor do not hesitate to contact us with your questions.
