Who Needs Cremation Urns?
Most of the families who are dealing with a cremation choose to store the ashes of a loved one in a beautiful cremation container called an urn. The cremation urn can then be displayed at home or placed in a columbarium, mausoleum, or, if it is a biodegradable cremation urn, it can be dispersed into the sea or buried in the ground. By far, the most popular choice among families is to put the cremation urn for ashes in their homes to remind them of the loved one who passed away.

Beautiful Cremation Urns for Sale
A cremation urn for human ashes is made to memorialize a loved one, making this such an incredibly difficult and emotionally charged decision. The GetUrns Family completely understand the gravity of this purchase and we put in the added effort to ensure every urn is perfect. This is why every cremation urn for sale is checked thoroughly for quality before it is shipped out to our customers by undergoing several quality assurance checks to make sure they receive a flawless cremation product.
What Size Urn Do I Need?
The rule of thumb while deciding the size of cremation urn you require is 1 Pound of Body Weight = 1 Cubic Inch of Ashes.
For example, if a person weighed 150 lbs. then the Cubic inches in ashes of that person would be approximately 150 Cubic Inches.
For more details regarding urn sizing, please refer to our Detailed Size Guide Page.
How Do I Open an Urn?
If it's a classic urn shape such as GetUrns Embrace Butterfly Urn, the top lid is threaded and can be simply turned to the left to open.
If it's a more specialized urn such as the LoveUrns Wings of Hope or Loveheart; the opening is on the bottom of the urn. You'll see a black felt circle, remove the gold logo sticker and you'll see a line, using a quarter or other straight edge insert that into the line and twist to the left to unscrew the threaded bottom.
Can an Urn Be Buried?
We do not recommend any urn be buried directly into the ground without a burial vault. When an urn is paced into the ground without protection, there is a risk of introducing moisture to the ashes inside. Since an urn is the final resting place of your loved one, a vault is a great idea so you can bury the urn with protection from the elements.
The only exceptions in a vault-less burial would be a biodegradable urn which is meant to degrade naturally over time without harming the environment. GetUrns offers a gorgeous selection of biodegradable urns which can be buried or released into a body of water. Our biodegradable urns also come in various shapes such as hearts, turtles, shells, etc so there’s an option for every personality out there.
Can This Urn Stay Outside?
We do not recommend any urn be placed directly outside without any form of protection such as a glass display case or a vault. Exposure to the elements can cause an urn to fade in color/sheen from the sunlight, scratch or chip from precipitation like ice or hail, or water damage if the urn is wooden.
What Is the Urn Made Out Of? What Are the Dimensions of This Urn?
Every urn or urn accessory available on GetUrns has a “Product Details” tab within the product description. This tab will include information such as the material the item is made of, the overall dimensions and capacity of said product, and included items for specialized products such as a cremation pendant or cremation bracelet bead.
