What size urn should I buy?

At GetUrns, urn sizes are measured by the volume of ashes they hold in cubic inches. As a guide, one pound of body weight equals approximately one cubic inch of remains. For example, if your loved one weighed 150 lbs, you’ll need an urn that holds at least 150 cubic inches. Most standard adult urns hold 200 cubic inches. Each product listing includes the urn’s capacity, and you can also use our collection page filters to find the right size based on weight.

How do I care for and clean the urn?

We recommend gently wiping the urn with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or fingerprints. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive materials, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the finish. With simple, careful cleaning, your urn will remain a lasting and beautiful tribute.

    Do you offer urn engraving?

At GetUrns, most urns can be customized with personalized engraving and is laser-engraved or UV printed in-house with your choice of names, dates, phrases, fonts, and artwork. Our designers can help you create a unique, meaningful tribute that beautifully honors your loved one. If you’re looking for a custom design not shown in our options, please fill out this form and our team will be happy to work with you.

    How durable are these urns?

Brass and aluminum urns are both highly durable options.

Brass urns are known for their exceptional strength and long-lasting quality. They are resistant to corrosion and maintain their finish well over time, making them ideal for long-term indoor display or placement in protected areas.

Aluminum/Alloy urns are lightweight yet strong, and they also resist rust and corrosion. While not quite as heavy or dense as brass, they still provide excellent durability for everyday handling and display.

Both materials hold up very well when kept indoors and are less fragile than ceramic or porcelain urns. They can last for generations with proper care.

How do I fill a cremation urn with ashes?

Most of our urns for ashes are designed with either a screw-off top or a bottom screw for easy access. To fill the cremation urn, simply open the designated panel and carefully load the ashes directly into the urn. Once filled, securely tighten the lid or bottom screw.  A funeral home often times can assist with filling the urn if preferred.

How do I choose an urn for my pet?

Choose a pet urn based on your pet’s size, the style you prefer, and whether you want personalization like engraving, a photo, or a paw print.

What size urn do I need for my pet?

Pet urns are measured in cubic inches. A simple rule is 1 pound of pet weight = 1 cubic inch of urn capacity. For example, a 20-pound pet needs at least a 20-cubic-inch urn.

    What is pet cremation jewelry?

Pet cremation jewelry is a wearable keepsake that holds a small amount of your pet’s ashes. It’s often available as a pendant, charm, or locket, and many designs feature paw prints.

Do you offer pet urn engraving?

At GetUrns, each urn can be customized with personalized engraving and is laser-engraved or UV printed in-house with your choice of names, dates, phrases, fonts, and artwork. Our designers can help you create a unique, meaningful tribute that beautifully honors your loved one. If you’re looking for a custom design not shown in our options, please fill out this form and our team will be happy to work with you.

Wings Of Hope FAQs

Will the pearlescent color and polished metal stay beautiful over time? +

A considerable amount of work goes into protecting the Wings of Hope after its decorative finishing is complete. Once the pearlescent finish and polished metal details have been completed, the exterior is covered with a protective Gloss Coat.

This clear protective layer is responsible for much of the exceptionally smooth, glossy feel of the finished piece. More importantly, it creates a barrier over the decorative finish and exposed metal surfaces, helping protect them from tarnishing, dulling, and deterioration over time.

With normal indoor display and gentle care, Wings of Hope is designed to retain the luminous appearance that makes the collection distinctive.

How difficult is it to transfer ashes into a Wings of Hope Urn? +

The Wings of Hope is designed to be filled through a discreet threaded opening located on the underside of the urn. Once filled and closed, the opening remains hidden when the butterfly is displayed normally.

Many families are comfortable transferring cremated remains themselves, but there is absolutely no requirement to do so. If you would rather not handle the transfer personally, most funeral homes and cremation providers can assist with placing the cremated remains into the urn.

Because Wings of Hope is a sculptural design rather than a conventional vase shaped urn, the concealed bottom opening allows the memorial to retain its uninterrupted butterfly appearance.

How does personalization work, and can I see it before ordering? +

Yes. When personalization is available for the Wings of Hope size you select, you can enter your engraving directly on the product page and use the personalization preview to see how your memorial will look before placing the order.

Depending on the available engraving area, personalization may include a loved one's name, dates, a short memorial message, choice of font, and selected artwork. Options can vary by Wings of Hope size because the available engraving area becomes smaller on Medium and Keepsake pieces.

The preview is particularly helpful for checking spelling, dates, positioning, and the overall appearance of the personalization before submitting your order.

Can several family members have matching Wings of Hope memorials? +

Yes. The different sizes within the Wings of Hope Collection make it possible to create a coordinated family memorial while allowing cremated remains to be shared.

For example, one family member may keep the Adult Wings of Hope as the primary memorial while other family members receive coordinating Medium or Keepsake butterflies containing smaller portions of the ashes. Families can choose matching colors for a unified memorial or select different colors that have individual meaning to each recipient.

This can be particularly meaningful for families who live in different homes or locations but want to share a common memorial design.

How do I decide between an Adult, Medium, or Keepsake Wings of Hope? +

Rather than choosing solely by physical size, first consider how you intend to memorialize and share the cremated remains.

An Adult urn is generally chosen when a family wishes to keep most or all of the cremated remains together in one primary memorial. A Medium may be appropriate when a smaller portion will be retained separately, while Keepsakes are designed for families who wish to share small portions among children, siblings, parents, or other loved ones.

Some families choose one Adult Wings of Hope as the primary memorial and several coordinating smaller butterflies for family members. Others choose only a Medium or Keepsake because they are scattering, interring, or otherwise memorializing the remaining ashes.

The individual product page provides the exact capacity for each size so you can confirm your selection before ordering.

Why is every Wings of Hope Urn slightly different? +

One of the most distinctive characteristics of Wings of Hope is that the pattern you see across the pearlescent surface is actually created by hand.

The pearlescent finish has a thick, paste like consistency. During finishing, skilled artisans work this material across the metal surface with their fingers, creating the flowing lines and variations visible across the wings. Because this process is performed individually by hand rather than printed or mechanically reproduced, the precise pattern will naturally vary from piece to piece.

These differences are part of the craftsmanship rather than imperfections. In a very real sense, every Wings of Hope has its own unique surface pattern.

Why is a butterfly meaningful as a memorial for a loved one? +

For many families, the butterfly represents transformation, transition, freedom, and the continuation of a journey beyond physical life. Its transformation from caterpillar to butterfly has also made it a powerful symbol of change and renewal across cultures and traditions.

Wings of Hope was designed around this symbolism. Rather than focusing solely on loss, the butterfly form can represent a life remembered, a transition, and the enduring connection we continue to have with someone after they are gone.

The meaning is ultimately personal, however, and families often choose the butterfly simply because it reminds them of the personality, beliefs, memories, or spirit of the person they are honoring.

What makes the Wings of Hope different from a traditional cremation urn? +

Wings of Hope was created for families who want a memorial that does not immediately look or feel like a traditional cremation urn. Its sculptural butterfly form allows it to be displayed naturally as a decorative memorial while discreetly holding cremated remains within the body of the piece.

What makes the collection particularly distinctive is that the butterfly is formed from metal rather than molded from resin or another decorative material. Its complex shape, pearlescent finish, polished details, and extensive hand finishing require multiple stages of specialized craftsmanship. The result is both a functional cremation urn and a lasting piece of memorial art.

Is the Wings of Hope suitable for permanent display in the home? +

Yes. Wings of Hope was specifically designed to function as both a cremation urn and a decorative memorial suitable for long term indoor display.

Unlike an urn that families may prefer to keep out of sight, its sculptural butterfly form can be displayed on a shelf, mantel, memorial table, cabinet, or other meaningful location in the home without immediately appearing to be a cremation urn.

Its metal construction provides substance and durability, while the protective Gloss Coat helps preserve the decorative surface. As with any finely finished memorial piece, it should be kept indoors, handled carefully, and protected from abrasive cleaners and unnecessary moisture.

      Q&A

For the engraving, is the middle line going to be the boldest word.?
Hello, That is not always the case. Our engraving department will adjust and format the text to make it most aesthetically pleasing. Often times, this includes centering the text and enlarging the name of the deceased. If you would like a specific size font for a specific line, please give us a call after placing your order so we can ensure accuracy.
Would the medium size fit an adult female? I really want this for my mom but the weight on the size charts say she would need a bigger one which is way too expensive
Hello, The medium will not fit in this case. You will have to go with the adult size. Thank you for reaching out.
